We are Nathan & Julia, the owners of Bricks & Minifigs Grand Rapids. We started building LEGO® sets and MOCs together when we were dating. Okay, let's be honest, we have Nathan to thank as he was the bigger LEGO® fan. But Julia was all in as an AFOL immediately.
We both grew up as creatives. As a couple, this love of making has expressed itself through graphic design degrees, a house full of art supplies and projects, 9 years spent teaching graphic design and creativity and innovation (that's Julia) and a constant joy in tinkering, inventing, and discovering new media (that's Nathan).
LEGO® bricks are an incredible medium for creativity, and since we've started building, so much has happened! We started an online store, dreamed of owning a brick-and-mortar store, signed up as franchisees, and opened Grand Rapids' first full-scale all things LEGO® retail store.
In the past three years, Julia has run the store, has had two MOC builds displayed at the LEGO® House in Denmark, and has been in her puzzle era when not building with LEGO® bricks. Nathan has continued his job as senior manager of customer success at a SaaS company and has come up with more new techniques in his builds than Julia ever could. He also paints miniatures when he doesn't have LEGO® elements in hand.
